Terms and Conditions

Wheatley Copywriting is the trading name of Neil Wheatley, a professional freelance copywriter. I provide quality copywriting and copy editing services throughout the UK and internationally. My goal is to meet or exceed clients' expectations with every project. Please read these terms and conditions in full. They exist to provide clarification of the agreement between you, the Client, and me, the Writer, when you commission the services of Wheatley Copywriting.

General Billing Procedures

The Quote: At the beginning of a project, the Writer will generally provide an estimate for the total cost of the work to be undertaken. Quote are based on the Writer's standard rate of 35.00 GBP per hour plus VAT. Estimated costs are valid for 30 days from the date of the quote.

If the parameters of the project change significantly either before or after the project begins, or if it involves much more time than originally quoted, the Writer will inform the Client so that the rate can be renegotiated. Should such changes negate any part of the project already completed at the time of the changes, the Client accepts responsibility for payment for the completed work and all services related to it, in addition to charges for new work arising from the change itself.

Invoicing procedures: The Writer requires a purchase order number or a written confirmation of the Client's order before beginning work on a project. The Client will receive the final invoice for a project upon approving the completed work. If the Writer has not received any comments or revisions within a week of submitting a completed draft, the Writer will consider the project complete and will send the invoice.

Payment for each project is due 30 days from the invoice date, unless expressly agreed otherwise.

When a deposit is required: For a project with an estimated fee of 500.00 GBP or more, the Writer will invoice the Client for 50% of the total fee when the project begins. An invoice for the remaining 50% will be sent when the project is complete.

When working with a Client for the first time, or if the Client is not a UK Limited Company, the Writer may also ask for a deposit of 50% of the total estimated fee when the project begins.

Cancellations: Should the Client decide to terminate the project after work has begun, the Writer will invoice for the work completed up to that point and any expenses incurred as per the Quote and Service Charges described in this document.

What the Service Includes

Unless otherwise specified, the estimated fee for a written piece of work includes one meeting or telephone interview and one round of revision. Any additional meetings, interviews, research trips, phone calls and revisions are billed on an hourly basis (25.00 GBP per hour plus VAT).

Acceptance of the Work: Upon acceptance of the work, the Client accepts responsibility for any further processes in which this work is used (e.g. printing, online publication, etc.). The Writer is not responsible for errors occurring in this work or projects related to it, after acceptance of this work.

Transport Charges: The Client will be billed for mileage to special events or interviews at the rate currently accepted by the Inland Revenue.

Rush Jobs: Projects involving a fast turnaround (two days or less) and weekend or evening working will be invoiced at an additional 20% of the standard rate. The Writer requires 50% of the total quoted cost up-front before beginning a 'rush job'.

Ownership of the Final Product: By completing payment for a written piece of work that the Client has commissioned the Writer to produce, the Client is purchasing full copyright of said piece of work. However, the Writer reserves the right to use samples of the work in the promotion of Wheatley Copywriting.
